Christmas Brownies!

Here's our favourite recipe for these delicious brownies which is foolproof, and makes a nice alternative to fruit-based Christmas cakes and pies.  Happy Baking!


Ingredients: 
50g plain chocolate
65g butter or margarine
50g chopped walnuts
65g self raising flour
175g castor sugar
2 eggs beaten
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla essence
pinch of salt

You will need a 20 cm square tin - mixer or hand whisk - oven preheated to 180C/ 350F

1. Grease the cake tin
2. Break chocolate into pieces and put in a small heatproof bowl with butter/margarine. Stand the bowl over saucepan of hot water and stir until melted. Remove from heat.
3. Sift flour and salt into separate bowl. Stir in sugar, eggs, vanilla essence, chopped walnuts and chocolate mixture. Beat until smooth.
4. Pour mixture into tin. Bake in oven for 30 mins until the mixture has risen and begins to leave the sides of the tine.
5. Leave in tin to cool, then cut into about 16 squares.
